Really don't feel like a JW anymore
by snare&racket init has been a good 8 years away from my area, a good 10 years + since i was regularly at meetings.
a good 12 years since i was hesitantly active.. it is a slow process but it does happen.
i now feel no connection to the belief system beyond memories.

Busted my ass to help some old JW's I knew. It blew up in my face. These people are absolutely void of any true human kindness or personal loyalty to a true friend. I had tried to mix two worlds and it just wont work. There is the JW world and the REAL world. The twain shall not meet. Sad really. Feeling father out and better about it every day. -

The school is an opportunity for the hierarchy to sustain itself. It hammers home the fact that there are elders who are more equal than others, they are the men of power because they are used in the school. Now the GB have taken the opportunity to put themselves in front of their hit men and keep the power close to their vests. For most elders the best part about the school is telling other people that they attended it. It was exhausting to me, so much drivel. -

In the 80's they encouraged using other translations for comparison, even in public talks so long as you read the NWT version first. Then they clamped down and said to knock it off. I think you have proven just why they said that. I never was satisfied with highlight and repeat. Knowledge is freedom, good for you. -

When I deleted myself from being an elder I had someone approach and ask if they could still talk to me! It was so sad that they didn't even know their own rules. Any time the word "No longer is serving as an elder" were spoken they assumed I was a bad person. Guess what? Someone else can tell them they are clueless, I never did but I know it now. Congrats. You ain't bad, just smarter. -
